A Certain Magical Index New Testament Volume 7 Releases in the West April 13

Yen Press has announced that A Certain Magical Index NT volume 7 will be released in the West on April 13, 2027. Pre-orders are currently live on Amazon. 

For those unaware, NT, short for New Testament, is the second series of light novels in A Certain Magical Index. The anime adaptation has only covered the events of the first light novel series, Old Testament, while in Japan, the third light novel series, Genesis Testament, is currently ongoing. 

The synopsis for NT volume 7 is as follows:

When Kamijou wakes up, he finds himself in a dark, cramped space. The next thing he knows, he’s getting a phone call from Tsuchimikado, who gets straight to the point: An enemy mage has infiltrated one of Academy City’s schools and set up a Soul Arm that will cause untold devastation when it goes off in two hours—and Kamijou is the only one who can stop it.

With the stakes established, the space around him collapses to reveal…the inside of a locker room at the all-girls Garden of Learning! Immediately branded an “extreme creep,” Kamijou scrambles to escape an angry mob of students while attempting to somehow diffuse the Soul Arm in time.

Just when all hope seems lost, he finds a helping hand in the form of Misaki Shokuhou, aka Mental Out. But is this pair’s meeting really a coincidence? Someone is pulling the strings from the underworld of Academy City, and so far, their plan is going off without a hitch…

A Certain Magical Index is a light novel series that primarily follows the protagonist, Touma Kamijou, a high school student residing in Academy City, a locale of Espers. He is a Level 0, one of those whose Esper abilities are the lowest of the low.

However, Touma is different from the rest of the city: he seems to have no latent Esper ability at all. Instead, he possesses a mysterious power known as the Imagine Breaker in his right hand, which negates all supernatural phenomena. After meeting a young girl named Index, Touma ends up entangled in various plots involving the Science side and veiled Magic side of the world.

The newest light novel entry in the mainline series, A Certain Magical Index Genesis Testament volume 16, is available in Japan.

Meanwhile, A Certain Scientific Mental Out continues its serialization. A fourth season of Railgun is also in the works.

The A Certain Dark Item light novel currently has seven volumes, while the manga has two volumes released. The anime adaptation is ongoing.
