Spider-Noir canceled after one season

After a singular season, the black and white (or in color) Nicolas Cage-starring Spider-Man series, Spider-Noir, is on the chopping block. This was the second show in part of a multi-show partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television to bring Sony’s Marvel Universe characters to the small screen, with the other one, Silk, ultimately scrapped.

As reported by Deadline, the show, which debuted back in May on MGM+ before making its way to Prime Video a few days later, fared pretty well with audiences and critics alike. It ranked in second place on Nielsen’s U.S Top 10 for original series for its first week and generated 851 million minutes viewed during that time. Meanwhile, during a six-week period, it generated 2.6 billion viewing minutes.

Its time in the spotlight wasn’t for long, as other Prime Video projects like Off Campus and Ride Or Die pushed it from the top 10. Considering the show had a pretty high-cost production, most likely, the Spider-Noir didn’t hit the numbers needed to actually nab a Season 2.

While Spider-Noir is no more, Amazon and Sony’s partnership will continue, with multiple other projects in the pipeline, one of which even nearing a series order. Just like the Nic Cage-starring series, all the others will debut first on MGM+ before releasing on Prime Video.
